Introduction to Sitecore Experience Edge

Today I am going to provide an introduction to Sitecore Experience Edge.

Sitecore Experience Edge is a SaaS-based content delivery platform that enables organizations or businesses to deliver headless content at scale. One of the main benefits of Sitecore Experience Edge is its large-scale content delivery. Due to its speed and adaptability, marketers and developers can deliver headless content at scale to each platform and device, including wearables, Internet of Things (IoT), mobile and tablet devices, etc.

The content would be published to the Sitecore hosted SaaS cloud which is based on Content Delivery Network (CDN) i.e., Sitecore Experience Edge rather than the Content Delivery environment while using Sitecore Experience Edge.

Availability of Sitecore Experience Edge

A scalable cloud-based content delivery solution, the Sitecore Experience Edge is offered with the following Sitecore Products that are Sitecore Experience Manager, Sitecore XM Cloud, Sitecore Content Hub, and Sitecore Content Hub One.

Sitecore Experience Edge Offerings

Sitecore Experience Edge offers two options for content delivery at scale for different platforms and devices.

Sitecore Experience Edge for XM

Experience Edge for Experience Manager (XM) is an API-based service from Sitecore that allows you to have scalable, globally replicated access to your Sitecore Experience Platform's items, layout, and media. You can continue to use the conventional publishing tools in XM, but Experience Edge provides you exposure to a GraphQL API hosted on Sitecore CDN instead of delivering content through a self-hosted Content Delivery environment. Any language can be utilized for building your solution or application, and GraphQL can be utilized for retrieving the content using queries.

Experience Edge for XM acts as a publishing target for your Sitecore content and media and provides a GraphQL API that lets you traverse the content tree by ID or path, obtain a snapshot of the Layout Service output for a route, for Sitecore Headless SDKs such as the Next.js SDK, perform Boolean queries for items based on field values and other item properties.

Sitecore Experience Edge for Content Hub

Sitecore Experience Edge for Content Hub is the solution for brands, businesses, and organizations that manage content for multiple functions and audiences using numerous devices and platforms.

Experience Edge is a set of services for headless content delivery and is based on the Content as a Service (CaaS) model that focuses on managing content into feeds. By using these feeds other applications and properties can consume and use the content according to their particular needs.

The content is hosted by Sitecore Content Hub in the cloud, and it is offered to consumers who need it delivered to any applications or systems whenever required.

Advantages of Sitecore Experience Edge

For headless Sitecore architectures, Experience Edge provides a scalable, managed delivery option with the following benefits:

Scalability - Sitecore Experience Edge provides faster content delivery and enables data caching by globally replicating and scaling your Sitecore content delivery.

Integration with different Platforms - Experience Edge provides flexibility to select tech stack as all the applications that can make API calls out can pull content in from GraphQL.

Removes Infrastructure Complexity - Experience Edge removes or reduces the need for hosting Content Delivery servers in your Sitecore infrastructure.

Supports Jamstack Architectures - Experience Edge supports Jamstack to build a static website and deploy it to Vercel. We can utilize Vercel's all-in-one platform with Global CDNs supporting the deployment and delivery of static and Jamstack apps.

Reaches Customers across all Channels - Experience Edge supports publishing Sitecore content to any device or channel (watches, phones, tablets, voice-controlled devices, and so on).
