Create Virtual Machine in Hyper-V

Today I am going to explain how to create a Virtual Machine in Hyper-V by Microsoft.

Steps to create a Virtual Machine in Hyper-V

The first step for creating a virtual machine in Hyper-V Manager is to right-click on the connected server and select the New option.

Under New, there are three more options that are Virtual Machine, Hard Disk, and Floppy Disk.

Select the Virtual Machine option. A new pop-up window will open which is New Virtual Machine Wizard.

Now Click on the Next button and give a name to your virtual machine. For example Ubuntu, Linux, etc. And then click Next.

Now Choose the Generation for your Virtual machine. If you want the operating system to install generation supports for 32-bit or 64-bit and provide virtual hardware which has been available in all previous versions of Hyper-V then go for Generation 1. Whereas for the latest features and only 64-bit with UEFI-based firmware OS you can select Generation 2. However, you can leave the default selection as it is if you are not sure about this. Default is Set to Generation 1.

Now assign the amount of RAM or Memory you want to use for the Virtual Machine.

Now it's time for Configuring Network. For that select the Default Switch from the Drop-down box. If you don't have then first create one. Then click Next.

Now the next part is to Connect the Virtual Hard Disk. There are three options available that can be used to Create a virtual hard disk, use an existing virtual hard disk and Attach a virtual hard disk later.

I will create a virtual hard disk. Give the Name, Location, and Size that you want for the Virtual Machine. Then Click Next.

Now Select the Installation Options. Here you can find 4 Options that are Install an operating system later, Install an operating system from a bootable CD/DVD-ROM, Install an operating system from a bootable floppy disk and Install an operating system from a network-based installation server.

Select your desired option. I will show by using the option of installing an operating system from a bootable CD/DVD-ROM. In this option, I will use the Image file (.iso).

Select your .iso file by browsing. And click Next.

Now It will give you a summary of the Virtual Machine. Click Finish.

On pressing Finish it will start the installation of Virtual Machine.

Now you can start your Virtual Machine.
